George A. Berger

George A. Berger, 84, of Palestine, IL, formerly of Southern Illinois, passed away at 9:00 A.M., Thursday, January 15, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
George was a retired coal miner working as a roof bolter for Amax Coal Company.  He was a member of UMW of A, VFW Post 4549 Robinson and Robinson American Legion Post 69.  He was of the Protestant faith.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born January 27, 1919 at Murphysboro, IL, the son of George and Margaret (Penrod) Berger.
He married Lillian V. De Armond on May 11, 1941 at Cape Girardeau, MO and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Palestine, IL, one son - George A. Berger and wife Judith of Palestine, IL, one daughter - Margaret Cravens and husband Leon of Palestine, IL, one brother - Tobis Berger of Murphysboro, IL, one sister - Ella Mae Geschwend of Belleville, IL, two grandsons - Rich Cravens and wife Kathy of Robinson, IL and Rob Cravens of Robinson, IL, two granddaughters - Sharon Cacic of Joliet, IL and Holley Berger of Joliet, IL, six great grandchildren, two step granddaughters and four step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services were at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Jim Delaney officiating.
Interment was at the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.
